Dr Abby Perkins
Clinical Psychologist
Overall, my approach to human suffering is to consider all the different parts, which may contribute to this: your experiences/history, your biology, and all the things/people around you, which may shape your difficulties in the here-and-now. This means that we work together collaboratively as a team: with you as the expert of your experience, and I bring some psychological knowledge.
My clinical psychology doctorate training means I have experience using a wide range of psychological approaches. However, the main ones I use include trauma-informed, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). I also like to think about how other people around you may influence your experience (this is called a systemic approach). My aim is to help you understand your difficulties, equip you with skills so they’re not impacting your life so much, and identify your values to help you build a rich and fulfilling life.
I have experience working with both children and adults, supporting them with difficulties such as anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, low self-esteem and OCD. I specialise in helping people who have long-term physical health conditions and managing the psychological impact of these.
